June is a voice-first journal for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. At an hour you pick, it rings your phone like a real call. You talk for a few minutes, June asks the follow-up questions that get past “fine”, and when you hang up the entry for that day is already written in the first person, in your own phrasing. It is built for the people who have started a journal five times and quit five times. June is free to download, with a subscription at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a free trial. Every journaling app on the App Store waits to be opened. It offers a blank page, a prompt, and a reminder at 9pm, and it puts the whole job on the person least able to do it: someone at the end of a long day who has to remember what happened, decide what mattered, and find the words. That is why journaling has such a high quit rate. The writing was never the hard part. The showing up was. June inverts the arrangement. It calls you. At the hour you choose, your phone rings on the lock screen like any other call. You answer and talk, out loud, for as long or as short as you want. June listens in real time and asks the follow-ups that turn a shrug into the actual story. When you hang up, the entry for that calendar day is written and filed. There is nothing to open, nothing to type, and no blank page at any point. The entry reads like you wrote it. June writes in the first person and keeps your phrasing, your nicknames, and the way you actually talk about your own life, because a diary you did not recognize is one you would never reread. It carries context between conversations. June keeps a short, human-readable set of notes about what is going on in your life, so tonight’s call already knows about last week’s. Every one of those notes is visible in Settings, and you can delete any of them. Search works on meaning rather than keywords. Ask for the hard weeks, or the last time you saw a particular friend, and June finds those days even when none of the words you typed appear in them. Saved entries live on your device and sync through your private iCloud. AI requests are processed by the providers disclosed in June’s privacy policy, and June’s diagnostics can include AI inputs and outputs. June does not operate a separate server database containing complete journals. KEY FEATURES - June calls you every evening at an hour you choose, arriving as a real call on your lock screen rather than a notification. - You talk for a few minutes and hang up, and June writes that day’s diary entry in the first person, in your own words. - If you would rather type than talk, texting June builds the same entry through the same follow-up questions. - Search understands what you meant, so asking for the hard weeks finds the right days even when none of those words were written. - June remembers what matters between conversations, and everything it remembers can be read and deleted in Settings. - Entries live on your device and sync through your own iCloud, with no account to create and no signup. - Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the streak, the current calendar month, and the question June wants to ask. ABOUT THE DEVELOPER June is made by Alejandro Pacheco, an independent developer who has been shipping small iOS apps on his own since 2024, including the video compressor HEVCut. He built June after starting and abandoning a paper journal several times, on the theory that the problem was never the writing but the showing up, and that a diary which asks first is a different product from one that waits.
